Superintendent's Message
HERE WE GROW!
Welcome to the renovated, rejuvenated, and reinvigorated Jefferson Township Local School District (JTLSD). As the smallest school district in Montgomery County we value our partnerships with the Montgomery County Educational Service Center, Miami Valley Career Technology Center, the other 15 public school districts in Montgomery County, and all the charter and parochial schools that serve and educate our JTLSD students.
We are unbelievably excited to announce the addition of a Miami Valley CTC Agriculture Education (Ag Ed) program at our Jr./Sr. High School. Did you know that the number one employer in Ohio is Agriculture! A portion of our Jr./Sr. High School will be totally renovated to include classroom spaces for: welding, construction, small engine repair, small animal care, greenhouse and natural resource management, and food and plant science. We are building a barn to house our small animals and a greenhouse behind the Jr./Sr. High School. Our curriculum has been aligned to provide all of our 7th-12th grade students an opportunity to explore, experience, and examine potential Agricultural career pathways. We will also be establishing our own FFA chapter which will build and foster leadership opportunities for all of our students.
Blairwood Elementary, which houses our PreK – 6th grade students, is going “All Ag Ed” for the coming school year and beyond. Our Blairwood students will be figuratively “under water” next year – meaning the entire building will be immersed in Hydroponic Gardening! We will be producing a large variety of vegetables to be utilized by the Blairwood cafeteria. The objective is for our cafeteria to save money by purchasing fewer vegetables and our students to eat more vegetables! All grade levels will be taking multiple field trips to the Jr./Sr. High School to interact with, collaborate and be mentored by our Jr./Sr. High School FFA students while being introduced to and exploring Ag Ed career pathways.
We will be partnering with the Ohio Farm Bureau, Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Jefferson Township Farming Community. We also look forward to collaborating with the MVCTC and the five Montgomery County School Districts with Ag Ed Programs: Brookville, Valley View, Miamisburg, Huber Heights and Trotwood.
In the JTLSD continuous improvement is an institutionalized habit! Every day that our students and staff come to school and work one of two things happens – we get better or we get worse. And I will absolutely, positively guarantee you that in the JTLSD we are ALL focused on getting a little bit better every day!
The JTLSD is organically growing and developing students who exemplify the following thriving indicators: 1) succeeds in school; 2) helps others; 3) values diversity; 4) maintains good health; 5) exhibits leadership; 6) resists danger; 7) delays gratification; and 8) overcomes adversity.
We are the Mighty, Mighty, Broncos. Watch us grow!
