Non-Negotiables

  • All students exiting 3rd grade will be proficient readers or better, based on the 3rd grade Ohio Achievement Reading Assessment. 
  • Bell-to-Bell, standards-based instruction will take place in every class every day.
  • Differentiated grade level instruction and curriculum for all students. 
  • Increased rigor for all students.
  • Reading Improvement Monitoring Plans for all students in grades Kindergarten through Fourth that are below grade level in reading based upon diagnostic assessments.
  • Language Arts instruction based upon the Science of Reading.
  • Utilization of the Gradual Release of Responsibility method of instruction in all grades and courses.

Turnaround Vision

  • Grades K-3: The Blairwood Reading and Mathematics Learning Center.
  • Grades K-6 Curriculum: Based upon the Science of Reading, following the Gradual Release of Responsibility methods, and aligned with state standards and mandates.
  • Grades 4-12 STEM-based curriculum. 
    • Grade 5 will have a STEM focus. Additionally, Mathematics and Science classes in grades 7-12 will have a STEM focus. Each subsequent fiscal year additional STEM classes will be added. 
  • All Graduates will be post-secondary credentialed. 
    • 2-4 year College, Trade school options, or Employment options.
  • Dual Credit (both high school and college) available for students in grades 10, 11, and 12.
